The Ultimate Holiday Milkshake

Now that the holiday season is over, you may be wondering what to do with all those candy canes still hanging on your Christmas tree. Not to worry! The holiday season is over, and now it’s time to put away the Christmas tree. As you pack away the ornaments and lights, you may be wondering what to do with all those leftover candy canes. There are plenty of wonderful recipes that use peppermint as a main ingredient, but I want share one my favorite recipes because it’s so delicious.

Last Christmas, as we sat around the tree, I was wondering what I could do with all the candy canes hanging on the tree once the holidays came to an end. Then, it came to me. Why not combine them with a few of my favorite ingredients—chocolate and ice cream! That’s when I came up with the ultimate holiday treat.

White Chocolate Peppermint Milkshake


4 scoops vanilla ice cream

1/2 cup milk

1 teaspoon peppermint extract

1-1/2 cups heavy cream

1/2 cup Ghirardelli peppermint bark

5 candy canes

1 tablespoon confectioner’s sugar

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

2 pieces chocolate chip morsels (milk or white chocolate)


Combine the vanilla ice cream, milk, peppermint extract, 1/2 cup of the heavy cream, 1/4 cup of the Ghirardelli peppermint bark and three of the candy canes in a blender and process until thick and smooth.

Once the mixture is thick and smooth, pour into two glasses.

Place the milkshakes into the refrigerator until the whip cream is complete.

In a large bowl, whip the remaining 1 cup heavy cream until stiff peaks are about to form.

Once the cream is stiff, beat in the vanilla extract and confectioner’s sugar. Continue to beat until peaks form.

Remove the milkshakes from the refrigerator and place a dollop of whip cream on top of each milkshake.

Add one whole candy cane to each glass.

Use a cheese grater to shave off the remaining white chocolate peppermint bark on top of the whip cream.

Place a chocolate chip in the center of the whip cream in each glass and enjoy!
